I have a more freestyle approach to life. After all, I don’t even get out of bed at the same time every day. So having to do the same routine every day makes me crazy. Because of my erratic schedule, I would fall behind on reading and then read larger chunks when I had more time. But I felt guilty because I wasn’t following the schedule.
Then I realized that I was essentially approaching the Bible the way I would approach any other book: reading a few minutes when I had time and longer sections when I had more time to read. I didn’t need a schedule; I just needed a chart to keep track of my progress so I could see what I still needed to read.
So I am offering you the same Bible reading chart that I use.
A Bible reading chart with no dates gives you the freedom to read at your own pace without the pressure of maintaining a schedule. It really doesn’t matter how long it takes you to read the Bible. It could be a year, or two years, or two months. Speed doesn’t matter as much as absorbing God’s word into your life. So don’t worry about having to read a certain amount per day, just read as much as you’re comfortable reading in one sitting. And feel free to skip around to read the portions that you feel like reading.
Approach the Bible the way you would any good book and don’t feel bad if you miss a day.
