Publish his glorious deeds among the nations. Tell everyone about the amazing things he does. ~Psalm 96:3
“I feel as called to be a writer as a missionary feels called to be a missionary,” says Christy. But she authored more than twenty books before God challenged her to have a kingdom-minded view of her work. With changes in technology, it is now possible for her to distribute books and multi-media discipleship tools around the world. But the people who need these tools most can afford them least. That’s why Christy is working on licensing some of her current and future works into the Christian Commons so they can be copied, translated, and distributed by missionaries and others around the world.
Christy was named after the Catherine Marshall book, Christy, which her mom read while she was pregnant. So even from the womb, it seems she was destined to be a writer. “I’m doing what I was made to do,” says Christy. “For the first time in my life, the pieces are coming together in a way that makes it clear what I need to do and why. I need to stop trying to make money and start making a difference for the kingdom of God. I need to stop promoting myself and start promoting God. In a way, that makes me a publishing missionary, spreading God’s message, not mine.”
Christy is making this her life’s work and she has no other income. She’s living with her mother to reduce living expenses, but for the rest? She’s living by faith in God’s provision, just like a missionary.
