Love Does

Discover a Secretly Incredible Life in an Ordinary World

Bob Goff (@bobgoff)

226 pages

Available from Amazon in paperback, Kindle, Audible audio download, and MP3 CD audiobook.

I read the paperback version.

You will love to read this book. Love Does is a collection of short stories from Bob Goff’s life. His dramatic retellings of the predicaments he gets into or the amazing things he has been able to do always have a genuine (not contrived) application to how we live the Christian life. Half the time I was laughing so hard I was crying and the other half I was deeply touched.

Bob has the winsome quality of a child who is not afraid to ask BIG. And he says “yes” to everything possible. His audacity has opened such incredible doors that sometimes he thinks it’s a prank (such as when he was asked to become Honorary Consul for the Republic of Uganda to the United States).

I’d love to recount some of Bob’s stories, but I really want you to read this book for yourself. I could barely put it down. It’s not just a collection of humorous and heartwarming stories; the stories serve as powerful examples of what is possible when we surrender our lives to showing God’s love to others. Love isn’t a warm feeling. Love isn’t a good idea. Love does. Love takes action.

“People who follow Jesus, though, are no longer typical—God is constantly inviting them into a life that moves away from typical.” –Bob Goff, Love Does, page 15.

“Each of us gets to decide every time whether to lean in or step back—to say yes, ignore it, or tell God why He has the wrong person.” –Bob Goff, Love Does, page 65.

I want to live a life that takes risks for God. I want to live a life God can use because I’m available and willing to do love. I want to begin saying “yes” to God.

The book closes with the question: What does God want me to do next?

I’ll let you answer for yourself after you read the book.

Here is one last quote from Bob:

“I used to be afraid of failing at the things that really mattered to me, but now I’m more afraid of succeeding at things that don’t matter.” –Bob Goff,  Love Does, page 30.

203751: Love Does: Discover a Secretly Incredible Life in an Ordinary World Love Does: Discover a Secretly Incredible Life in an Ordinary World

By Bob Goff / Thomas Nelson

Remember the joy and excitement as a kid of being invited to a big party? You felt valued, included, wanted and ready to have a good time. Bob Goff believes that every day of life can be lived with the same childlike enthusiasm and sense of humor. In Love Does, Goff shares remarkable stories from his life and shows how living and loving to the fullest is the best way to make Jesus known in this world. Whether you’ve travelled to meet dozens of world leaders with your kids, and started a school in Uganda like Goff, or are simply seeking a new perspective on the Christian life, you’ll learn that love is a verb, not just a feeling. Goff’s insights and joyful reflections will help you discover what it means to live as Howard Thurman intended when he said, “Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”
