Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Jesus is Lord! Some people don’t believe it, but that doesn’t change the truth that Jesus is Lord! Jesus humbled himself but God elevated him and now, at the name of Jesus every knee will bow to him. We have a choice. Everyone will bow before Christ someday. Those who believe and love Jesus will bow in worship. Those who don’t believe and hate Jesus will bow in submission. Either way, everyone will bow to Jesus.
God gave Jesus the name above all other names. It’s a powerful name, as indicated by these examples:
“There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).
“But these are written so that you may continue to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing in him you will have life by the power of his name” (John 20:31).
I hope you feel the sense of awe welling up in your spirit. The work of Jesus in coming to earth to purchase our freedom in Christ is powerful, deep, and multi-faceted. It’s worth spending some time worshiping him for the amazing love and humility that brought him to earth.
If the hustle of the season has kept you too busy to spend time with God, take time to worship him and reflect on Jesus, the Name above all other Names.
“Worship Christ as Lord of your life” (1 Peter 3:15).
“Come, let us worship and bow down. Let us kneel before the Lord our maker” (Psalm 95:6).
“Worship the Lord with gladness. Come before him, singing with joy” (Psalm 100:2).
Lord, you are awesome! You inspire me to the depths of my being. You humbled yourself because of your great love for me and then God lifted you up. All people will bow before you. All of creation bows before you. I lift your name up where it belongs. I exalt you! You are worthy of my praise. You are worthy of my worship. I bow down in awe of you. You are worthy of my trust and complete surrender to you. Your name instills hope and courage in my heart and I find renewed strength in reflecting on your greatness. Thank you, Lord.
