December 31: He Will Come Again

So also Christ was offered once for all time as a sacrifice to take away the sins of many people. He will come again, not to deal with our sins, but to bring salvation to all who are eagerly waiting for him.

Hebrews 9:28

Advent means “arrival or coming.” Some Christians refer to the Christmas season as Advent because it celebrates the arrival of Christ. Long before Christ came, the prophets of God foretold of the coming Messiah. Jesus fulfilled these prophecies in amazing detail. Because God kept His promises regarding every detail of Christ’s advent, we have strong assurance that He will keep His promises regarding the Second Advent.

Christ will come again. The Second Advent or arrival of Christ is also foretold in the Bible. God kept His promises the first time, so we can be sure He’ll keep His promises regarding the Second Advent.

The first time Christ came to deal with our sin by sacrificing Himself on our behalf. By His death and resurrection, He broke the power of sin and death so we could live free by His love and grace.

The second time Christ comes, according to the Bible, He will not be dealing with our sins, but bringing salvation to all who are waiting for Him.

Even though God chose us to do hard things, we have our hope set on the return of Christ who will free us from the hardships of our human lives. No matter what life holds for us, God’s promise is sure. That’s why “we look forward with hope to that wonderful day when the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, will be revealed” (Titus 2:13).

Lord, thank You for sending Jesus to earth to fulfil Your promises regarding sin and salvation. Remind me to keep my hope on the return of Christ so I don’t grow weary of the struggles I face. When I am discouraged at life’s difficulties, give me a glimpse of the glory of Christ’s Second Advent. All of our Christmas celebrations will pale in comparison to the celebration we have at the return of Christ. Thank you for reminding me of this wonderful promise.
