Praying for Your Elephant

Boldly Approaching Jesus with Radical and Audacious Prayer

Adam Stadtmiller

240 pages

Praying for Your Elephant: Boldly Approaching Jesus with Radical and Audacious Prayer is about asking God for anything, no matter how big or small, how altruistic or selfish, or even how likely or absurd it may seem. Rather than censoring ourselves by holding back certain prayer requests we deem inappropriate, author Adam Stadtmiller encourages us to ask for anything and everything.

Jesus did, too. He taught His disciples to ask for anything (Matthew 18:19, John 14:14). Rather than censoring our prayers and limiting God, why not ask for anything and everything and let God decide how He will work? Let’s place our prayers under the old adage, “It doesn’t hurt to ask.”

We tend to keep our expectations in check by sizing down our prayers to something manageable—something we could probably accomplish on our own. But then the adage applies, “You get what you ask for.” What if asking for bigger things produced bigger results so we could see God truly work in our lives and the lives of others?

The author explains his purpose this way: “[This book] is about helping you identify through asking prayer the one hundred most important and recklessly outlandish elephants you have the courage to pray for” (Adam Stadtmiller, Praying for Your Elephant).

Praying for Your Elephant provides a challenge to all of us to ask for more and bigger things. We serve a big God. Let’s give Him a chance to show what He can do.
