Introducing the 2016 Biblical Character Awards The Biblical Character Awards are my way of featuring a handful of readers and recognizing them for their contribution to my life and ministry.   “They have been a wonderful encouragement to me, as they have been to you. You must show your appreciation to all who serve so well” (1 Corinthians 16:18).   Meet Margaret For a long time, I only knew her as @BigBlueMug on Twitter. She is, in fact, one of my earliest Twitter contacts from way back when I was first learning to tweet. She carefully guards her online privacy so I’ll just call her Margaret. I love Margaret’s playful spirit. She conjures up stories about the monster in the old laundry chute and her imaginary friend named “Gertrude” who lives in the cellar. I often miss the playful banter we used to enjoy in the “glory days” of Twitter. I remember one time, in particular, where I...

You must show your appreciation to all who serve so well” (1 Corinthians 16:18).   Meet Tori Deaux   I have an artist-friend who doesn’t like a lot of recognition but Tori Deaux (pronounced “doe”) has helped me in both personal and professional ways. This year she has begun re-designing some of my book covers so we can see if that helps increase sales. But it’s not like she has nothing else to do. Tori is known for her case full of Quirks, her personal brand of creatures that are part penguin and part elephant (or something like that!). The Quirks help her talk about difficult subjects with a whimsical interface. Speaking...

You must show your appreciation to all who serve so well” (1 Corinthians 16:18).   Meet Claudia Hall McFie   Claudia Hall McFie (@adulcia), from Christchurch, New Zealand, always has an encouraging word, even though she, too, struggles at times with periods of depression. I think that makes her words extra special. For someone who is trying to push back the darkness to speak words of light and life to others—well, it gives me courage to dig a little deeper and press on. Not only does she share positive things on social media, but she personally engages with things I share on my blog or social media. I genuinely appreciate...

You must show your appreciation to all who serve so well” (1 Corinthians 16:18).   Meet Sara McKeefer   I first knew Sara McKeefer as @lakegirl90 on Twitter. Her Twitter handle comes from living in the Northern Indiana Lakes Area. I watched as Sara connected with people on Twitter through prayer. She engages with people by sharing their prayer requests and celebrating answers. What a sweet spirit! When Sara learned I have bipolar disorder, we connected even deeper because she has a family member with a mental illness. Sara has been a great encouragement to me for several years. I always know she will encourage me with a...
